Taraji is set to portray Katherine G. Johnson in a new film “Hidden Figures”. The movie is an adaption of the Margot Lee Shetterly book “Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race”. The story centers on Johnson (Henson), a brilliant African American mathematician who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. History. For those who need to brush up on their Black History, Katherine G. Johnson is an American physicist, space scientist, and mathematician who contributed to America’s aeronautics and space program. She began the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA and was best known for her accuracy in computerized celestial navigation. She was responsible for calculating the trajectory for Project Mercury and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon. The film is set to be released January 13 of next year.
