According to the New York Times, singer, Jennifer Hudson is to leave the Broadway hit, The Color Purple. She was the character, Shug Avery.
Her replacement is none other than Heather Headley, a Tony Award-winning actress who has been on Broadway before. As Hudson’s last show will be on May 8, Headley’s first performance will be May 10.
Ben Brantley, the chief theater critic for the NYT said Hudson “radiates a lush, supple stage presence that is echoed by her velvet voice.”
