Will Packer signs on to "Being Mary Jane", While Mara Brock Akil steps away from the show!
Being Mary Jane will be returning with BIG changes! As previously reported, show creator and executive producer Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil, who directed the series, have signed an overal deal with Warner Bros TV, causing them to step away from Gabrielle Union-led drama. They will, however, retain their executive producer credit. For the show's fourth season, Will Packer, whose resume includes films like Straight Outta Compton and Think Like A Man, will serve as producer. Erica Shelton Kodish ("The Good Wife") was also tapped as executive producer and showrunner.
"Being Mary Jane is full of characters and stories about which BET viewers are passionate. We knew it would take special talent to further this very important mission and we’re lucky to have found them in this dynamic duo," Stephen Hill, President of Programming at BET Networks said in a statement.
"Will’s a master producer and storyteller and Erica is a dynamic writer whose experience in developing complex, multi-dimensional women makes her the ideal scribe to continue Mary Jane’s journey."
Production for the upcoming season of "Being Mary Jane" is scheduled for later this year. Can't Wait to see what he comes up with!
