For the past 5 years pop singer and fashion icon Rihanna has been breaking crazy records. From first woman to win MTV’s best music video award, to artist with the most subscribers and viewers on YouTube, and in July Rihanna broke Michael Jackson’s Billboard Hot 100 records. Rihanna surpassed Michael Jackson for the third most number one songs of all time. Last night at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards Pop Star was awarded with the Michael Jackson Music Video Vanguard Award. The VMA’s were pretty much an extended Rihanna concert as she had 4 performances throughout the VMA’s that consisted of a mixture of her music throughout her 13 year career.
Rihanna ended her last performance singing her best hits, Stay, Diamonds, and Love on the Brain. Rapper Drake had the honor of awarding Rihanna with the Vanguard award. Drake being classic Drake, used this moment to confess his love for Rihanna by saying,” [Rihanna] is someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22.” And he even tried to sneak in a kiss. When Rihanna received the Vanguard award she started off by saying, “It’s such an amazing moment in my career. When I think about the Vanguard Award and receiving this tonight, all I could think of is my country.” Rihanna further explained that her success is no longer her own, her success, it is her fans, her family’s, the Caribbean’s, women’s, and black women’s. She thanked everyone who has stuck by her from the beginning and thanked MTV before being escorted off stage. A huge congratulations to Rihanna on her success’s.
