Open Road Films released the first look at the documentary on the life of Thurgood Marshall. The trailer for the film titled “Marshall,” tells the story of the first African American Supreme Court Justice. Chadwick Boseman, most recently known for his role as Black Panther in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, is no stranger to biopics. Boseman has starred as many other notable African American figures including Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in Major League Baseball, in 42 and James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul” in Get on Up.
Although Boseman has shown to be an incredible actor, opinions about his casting have been somewhat negative because of Boseman’s darker skin. Some people took to twitter to voice their concerns, saying colorism played a substantial role in Thurgood Marshall’s career and with Chadwick Boseman playing the character, it weakens that narrative. The remaining cast in the film includes Josh Gad, Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, Sterling K. Brown, and James Cromwell. The screenplay is written by Jacob Koskoff and Michael Koskoff. Marshall is set to premiere in select theaters later this fall, October 13th. Watch the trailer below:
