The Magic School Bus Rides Again?

Has the beloved Ms. Frizzle made her triumphant return to the small screen? There was talk awhile back with Tracey Ellis Ross playing the character that shrunk her way into the hearts of 90’s kids. But, unfortunately, we aren’t that lucky. However, Netflix did release a trailer and sneak peek of the reboot of the PBS Kids classic, The Magic School Bus. The new series is called the Magic School Bus Rides Again.

Lily Tomlin has made her return as the quirky school science teacher. But, she’s gotten a much deserved pay raise as now Professor Frizzle.

Did anyone else not know that she had a younger sister? And why don’t they have the same last name? The hilarious Kate McKinnon has inherited the role as Professor Frizzle’s kid sister, Fiona Felicity.

Fiona will be the new bus operator with Professor Frizzle taking a step down and passing on the torch. Now, it isn’t this change or the new singer of the theme song replacing poor Little Richard with Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s the animation quality of the whole thing.

Fans of the classic cartoon are complaining because the new animation of the 2017 remake is worse than the software used in the 1990’s. “It looks cheap”, “It looks like plastic clip art”, “It’s lost its soul”, “it’s garbage”; are just a few of the complaints coming from fans. This is all in the wake of the reveal of there being a fourth powerpuff girl added to Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. It’s nice that they are trying to revamp the 90’s with a new age style, but, could this be going too far?

Needless to say, fans are still eager to see the Magic School Bus make its triumphant return to the silver screen. The creators hope that with this reboot they will captivate children’s imaginations and motivate their interests in the sciences. Stuart Stone, who voiced Ralphie in the original series will act as the reboot’s producer and confirmed that most of the original cast will be making a return in the new series.

The series is set to officially release on Netflix on September 29th.
