"Hocus Pocus" In the Making of a Second Movie!

The Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus is making a comeback. The 1993 film which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three witches who get resurrected in Salem, is reportedly in talks to be rebooted by Disney Channel. However, the reboot will star a completely new cast and will be executive produced by David Kirschner, who also produced the original film. Scarlett Lace is set to replace original writers like, Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris; and the original director, Kenny Ortega, is to reprise his role.

In an interview with Forbes, Mick Garris shared his excitement over the fan favorite, "It’s amazing to be a part of something that has become a perennial... Generation after generation, it’s kind of remarkable and fantastic to have something brought to the screen like that and to have it embraced generation after generation. Everybody I meet, it’s either their daughters or their own favorite movie and it’s incredibly exciting."

Although it will be exciting to see the film in newform on our screens again, many fans are skeptical over the recasting, especially because the original trio has voiced their interest in a reunion for years. In a 2016 interview, Sarah Jessica Parker said “I think we’ve all been fairly vocal about being very keen, but that hasn’t created any ground swell of movement.” Bette Midler also once said in a statement, “'Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a HOCUS POCUS 2, ask the Walt Disney company. You have been SO adorable.”

Whether it’s the original cast or not, it will be interesting to see if the new Hocus Pocus reboot will capture our hearts just as much as the original Sanderson Sisters.
