Whitney: A Documentary

This world lost one of the most influential and powerful vocalist/entertainers of the 20th century. We knew her as Whitney Houston, but her family knew her as Whitney. Biopics are just the surface of the real story but on July 6, 2018, the world too will see how the superstar lived in the spotlight and the obstacles she battled to keep her fans pleased. Whitney, the documentary turned film is directed by Kevin Macdonald, who directed The King of Scotland and a Bob Marley documentary in 2012 titled Marley.

“Whitney” includes unreleased tracks and live performances throughout her career. Whitney Houston’s voice had such an incredible range that gave you chills of purity that resisted you from turning away. She gave us numerous hits like, "I Have Nothing", "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" to name a few. Also, when she sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the 1991 Super Bowl, we knew that Whitney was a force that could not be reckoned with.

Though some thought “Whitney” highlights the rise and the deterioration that fame can have over one person, she left everyone with questions asking why did she do this to herself and her career. In an interview with Kevin Macdonald, he talked about how he was contacted by Whitney’s former agent who wanted the same answers because she too loved Whitney for who she was and not what she brought to the table; which gave him the urge to curate this body of work. The documentary also shows never-before- seen archival footage, exclusive recordings, rare performances and interviews with the people who knew her best. Her mother, brothers, friends, and even her ex-husband Bobby Brown makes a cameo. Miramax and Roadside Attractions will debut Whitney in theaters in the United States and the United Kingdom on July 6. Check out the trailer below!
