Jurnee Smollett-Bell is an American Actress who began her career as a child actress appearing on many popular television sitcoms; her breakout role as Jordee Jerrico on ‘On Our Own’. She would later go on to recur and eventually star in other projects such as: ‘The Great Debaters’ (2007), NBC sports drama ‘Friday Night Lights’ (2009-2011), Tyler Perry's ‘Temptation’ (2013) and 'Underground’ (2016-2017). The list of her accomplishments goes on, including critical acclaim and a Critics Choice Award that she received for playing Eve in the 1997 independent drama film “Eve’s Bayou”.

HBO’s upcoming television series, “The Lovecraft Country”, is an upcoming drama horror series based off of the Novel of the same name written by Matt Ruff. Ruff stated in an interview with HBO:
“I knew when I wrote the LoveCraft Country novel, it also had potential to be unlike anything else on television”
The television series follows Atticus Black as he up with friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across the 1950s in Jim Crow America to search for his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of White America.
With all of the built up suspense about what this show may bring, we all know the cast will play a huge part embodying their roles within the series. On April 26, 2018 it was announced that Jurnee would be cast as the series’ Female Lead, ‘Letitia 'Leti' Dandridge’.
Yale graduate, Jonathan Majors, is set to star opposite of Smollett-Bell as Atticus. The two will be joined by Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2), Aunjanue Ellis (Quantico), Wunmi Mosaku (Fantastic Beasts), and more. James Gunn, Mark Gordon, and J.K. Rowling have signed on to write the script and Yann Demange & Jordan Peele are set to direct and produce the series.
The novel was originally written by American Author Matt Ruff, an American Author known for genres such as: Thrillers, Science Fiction and Comic Novels. His first novel, ‘A Fool On The Hill’, is a fantasy novel that drew on his own experiences while living in Risley Residential College at Cornell University. It was his first written Senior thesis in his Honors English class and was published shortly after Ruff's graduation. He has written two other books: ‘Sewer, Gas & Electric: The Public Works Trilogy’ and ‘Set The House in Order: A Romance of Souls’. With all of his already great accomplishments, his latest novel, ‘The LoveCraft Country’ was nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 2017 for the Novel category.
