The Lion King

December 4, 2018

Millennial's, the time has come! The odds are in our favor again to where we can all come together, no matter what skin color, gender, or race. The time has come; the rumors are true. After 25 years, someone has finally produced the remake of, one can say, one of the biggest animated films of all time. Disney has finally announced that in the year 2019 The Lion King remake will hit the big screens in the United Kingdom and United States cinemas.

Before I continue, I’ll give you a second to grab your device after dropping it on the ground from this astonishing, yet amazing, news!

It was in 2016 when the rumor hit the fan about there actually being a live-action re-imaging of The Lion King. Disney produced the first Lion King back in 1994, which follows the story of a young lion, Simba, who is the son of the King of Pride Rock, Mufasa. Mufasa is killed by a stampede planned by Scar, the brother of Mufasa, who yearns to be King of Pride Rock. Simba flees Pride Rock after his uncle Scar tricked him into thinking it was his fault for killing Mufasa. Simba fleeing Pride Rock, results in his evil uncle, Scar, ruling and destroying the land. Simba grows up in a wild jungle where he meets friends Timon and Pumbaa. As Simba becomes older, he gets various signs from old friend Nala and Rafiki, and his father, Mufasa to go back to Pride Rock and take his rightful spot as king. Simba goes back and challenges Scar, and defeats him, regaining his position as the king of Pride Rock.

The director of the remake is Jon Favreau, who is also the director of “The Jungle Book” and “Beauty and the Beast” remakes. Favreau has incorporated a lot of things from the original movie, while adding a few new sparks to it as well. It wasn’t until recently that Disney dropped the official trailer for the movie; and just in 24 hours after releasing this footage, the video reached 224.6 million views.

Once again, rumors circled back in 2017 about who would be the cast of the The Lion King remake. Back in February 2017, the rumor of Donald Glover playing Simba was confirmed by a picture released on Twitter that Favreau posted of himself and Glover with the caption “Simba Returns”. Also rumored was the news of Beyonce playing the voice of Nala (Simba’s friend turned lover), and that rumor was confirmed to be true when The Lion King cast list was announced November 2017 by Disney on their verified Twitter page. The names Disney dropped along with their role in the film has been listed below:

What is the song playlist for the movie?

The talent behind the songs of the original Lion King, composer, Hans Zimmer and singer Elton John are back to help with producing songs for the remake. The four songs: “Circle of Life”, “I Just Can’t Wait to be King”, “Hakuna Matata”, and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” are said to be played in the remake, a new song will be emerging that Elton John plans to do with Beyonce that will be played during the credits. With this being said, songs such as “Be Prepared” and “Morning Report” will not be replayed from the original The Lion King in the remake.

As time winds down, we hope to see more spoilers of what the remake of The Lion King will entail
