Last week the Grammy’s released the official nomination list for the 61st Grammy Awards. The special will be aired on February 10, 2018. There are 84 categories that range from Pop, General Field, R&B, Spoken Word, Children, and Classical to name a few. The category General Field has Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New
Artist. Some may say that the record and song of the year are the same award, but the difference is; the record is for the recording of the song (the artist and producer). Whereas the song of the year is an award for the songwriter. Both of those categories have Kendrick Lamar(All the Stars), Drake (God’s Plan), and Childish Gambino (This is America). Both
categories also have other genres that are running for both, like Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for Shallow. Cardi B has racked up 5 nominations (Best Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Duo Performance, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album). Drake has 3 nominations for God’s Plan and Nice for What is nominated for Best Rap Performance. TDE has 5 nominations between Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Jay Rock being nominated for “WIN”. H.E.R. also has tallied up 5 nominations with her debut album H.E.R. She is in the categories Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
And of course, The Carters copped a few nominations within the R&B category for Best R&B Performance and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Beyonce’s prodigies Chloe x Halle are running up against them for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best New Artist. The Grammy’s has so many categories and artist submitting their music, but unfortunately, Nicki Minaj is one of those artists who did not make the cut. But Travi$ Scott and Stormi made the cut with 3 nominations; 2 for Sicko Mode featuring Drake and Best Rap Album
of the Year for ASTROWORLD. There are so many more nominations and if you are interested in taking a deeper look you can click on the link below.
