Disney's Live Action MULAN

Disney’s “Mulan” is an infamous animated film based on an ancient Chinese woman of literature, Hua Mulan. Hua Mulan is said to have been a legendary warrior for the northern part of China. After impersonating her father to enter the war, Hua Mulan becomes known as a hero across China. Although Disney made the story child-friendly, the plot has stayed the same. Now to continue to honor the legendary warrior, a live-action version is being released next year.

This version is said to have some entirely different changes, specifically, to draw more attention to the character, Mulan, herself and her significance. In fact, the changes are as small as less music, to as larger as eliminated staple characters. So far, Li Sheng isn’t in the film at all. Additionally, fans are worried that Mushu will also not be in the film, however, Disney has not confirmed this rumor. Other characters have been added too. A new character by the name of Chen Honghui is said to be the “love interest.” On the other hand, Bori Khan is the villainous character looking to avenge his father’s death.

The film has been anticipated by many, especially in the China. Unfortunately, this same country is not happy with the recent trailerthat dropped. People are saying that the trailer holds many historical inaccuracies. For example, the trailer shows Mulan and her family living in a tulou house. A tulou house is a living structure that holds an entire community and is known for being in the southern city of Fuijan. This is crucial since Mulan was born in the north, and not the south. It wouldn’t be likely for Mulan to ever live in a tulou house.

The inaccuracies haven’t turned away the public completely. Disney’s previous remakes have raised the standards for their next film and are keeping hope alive amongst fans. To date, Disney has released remakes include “Dumbo,” “Aladdin,” and “The Lion King.”
