R. Kelly’s legal situation is still in the air, but it seems that his team is starting to become restless. Decades of allegations have caused the public to lose all trust in Kelly, and in result he hired one person to assist his sanity. Darrell Johnson was hired roughly seven months ago as Kelly’s crisis manager. He is known as the man who calmed Kelly down after his explosive interview with Gayle King from CBS Morning.
Ironically, Johnson also went to the CBS studio to speak with Gayle King, along with her colleagues. During his interview, Johnson revealed some stunning and confusing answers. When asked about what to say to all the women regarding Kelly’s case, his response was “that [he] hadn’t seen anything that would cause [him] to be suspicious.” As King pushed further, Johnson simply pointed out that the same women would “have to bring the evidence.”
At this point in the interview, Johnson seems to genuinely believe in Kelly’s innocence. The takes a turn when King asked, “you have a 20-something-year-old daughter. Would you allow her to be alone with R. Kelly?” The words “absolutely not” flew out of Johnson’s mouth with no hesitation.
“I wouldn’t leave my daughter with anybody that’s accused of pedophilia. Period,” he stated.
Johnson also has resigned from the Kelly team; however, it has been reported that it for personal reasons. In fact, the defense team of Kelly released a statement via Twitter, but afterwards was deleted. Later, Johnson rescinded his answer regarding his daughter did not come off right.
In a statement with USA Today, he said “I should have worded it better. I would leave my daughter with Kelly because I do not believe he is a pedophile.”
