Gossip Girl, perhaps one of my favorite teenage dramas, is coming back to your television set, but this time with a whole new cast and a whole new Gossip Girl character. The original Gossip Girl series, which was on TV from 2007 to 2012, featured Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, and Leighton Meester, while providing viewers with an ‘inside look’ into the prestigious lives of the Upper East Side teens. The final episode of the series focused on revealing the character behind the rumor filled Gossip Girl website, Dan, which shocked many viewers. The Gossip Girl reboot, which is allegedly taking place 8 years after the Gossip Girl revelation, will also feature Upper East Side teenagers being ‘harassed’ by an anonymous online character who has information on everyone and anyone. One big difference between the original and the reboot, is that the reboot will utilize social media.
HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, has requested 10 hour-long episodes for the first season, and will be written by Joshua Safran, the creator of the original Gossip Girl. It has not been confirmed whether or not the original cast members of the show will be featured, but several have expressed interest.
There is not a set date for the release of the Gossip Girl reboot, but we are expecting it to be soon after the HBO Max launch in spring of 2020.
