Our Sis, Lizzie McGuire Is Coming Back Older and Wiser!

In 2001, the world was introduced to the Disney series, “Lizzie McGuire.” The show followed a young thirteen-year-old girl, who longed to be popular in school. Lizzie McGuire was the girl we all rooted for and related to. Now the show is coming back and Lizzie isn’t the same dreamer we once knew.

On Saturday, August 24th, Hilary Duff surprised fans when she appeared at the Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. At the event, it was announced that “Lizzie McGuire” would be returning with a reboot series on Disney+. In the reboot, Lizzie is now thirty years old and lives in New York City.

“She has her dream job [as] an apprentice to an interior designer who is a pretty big deal. She has a gorgeous fiancé who is this chef at this cool Soho restaurant. She has a cute little apartment in Brooklyn and everything is going her way and she's celebrating her 30th birthday with all of her friends," Duff told Good Morning America.

Although fans are excited to see the character in a completely new light, the development of Lizzie’s new life will be left in the dark. There won’t be any episodes regarding the 17-year gap in her life. Furthermore, it hasn’t been confirmed on who will be in her life. Other characters, like Gordo, haven’t been scheduled to make an appearance in the series. Nonetheless, Duff tells fans to stay on their toes, since “[t]here’s a lot of surprises.”

One character that fans will get to see is animated Lizzie. The alter ego will continue to be giving insight on Lizzie’s true film, while wearing the same pink tank top, blue jeans, and orange platform flip flops.

Duff has also reported that the excitement of the reboot starts right in her home. Specifically, her seven-year-old son, Luca Cruz, has reacted quite positively to the idea of the reboot. She even went on to explain that the mother-son duo has bonded over the original series.

“I think that he thinks I’m cool now, which is awesome,” Duff added. “I’ll take that for as long as I can have it!”

As of now, filming for the reboot hasn’t started. This means that a release date isn’t set either, but rumors are hoping for a release by the end of 2020. However, Disney+ will be available for U.S, Canada, and Netherland residents on November 12th.
