The Boondocks Has Teamed Up With HBO For A Reboot

September 28, 2019

If you’re someone who has constantly watched The Boondocks rerun after rerun, then the recent news of a reboot has caught your attention. HBO Max, a streaming platform, has released that they will be doing two reimagined series for the show.

Just a short six years later after the end of the show, the platform has promised to give fans everything they could wish for. The two seasons will consist of 12 episodes each and have a 50-minute episode at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, none of your favorite characters will be missing. The family of Huey, Riley, and Robert will still remain. In a small summary of the upcoming seasons, HBO described the show as the following:

“The new Boondocks follows the adventures of self-proclaimed ‘Civil Rights Legend’ Robert ‘Granddad’ Freeman, and his two rambunctious grandsons Huey and Riley. The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.”

Before, The Boondocks was taken off the market by Sony Pictures Animations and HBO Max spoke out about being the best fit for the new reboot. The original series is known for the combating conversations about social issues. Officials at HBO Max tend to continue these conversations, in hopes of adding to the new issues that we see now.

So far, there is no release date for the new seasons, however, the fall of 2020 has been thrown out for reference. Until then, the streaming platform plans to release previous seasons for fans to binge watch and build the anticipation.
