Police officer Charged with Murder Following Atatiana Jefferson’s death

Police Officer Aaron Dean has been charged with a count murder following the fatal shooting of Atatiana Jefferson.

Atatiana Jefferson was murdered on October 12 inside her own home. At around 2:25 am, Jefferson’s neighbor called a non-emergency line to report her home’s front door had been open, reported Fox 23 News.

At the time, Jefferson was with her 8-year old nephew playing video games with him when she began to hear unsettling noises outside her window. Frightened, she pulled her registered and licensed handgun from her purse and pointed it towards the window.

Seconds later, she was fatally shot from inside her home right in front of her nephew.

That following Monday, Officer Dean resigned from his position due to the investigation of the incident. He was also arrested that same day and charged.

The Chief of the Fort Worth Police Department, Ed Kraus, has apologized profusely to Jefferson’s family and the community.

Jefferson’s family is seeking an explanation for this senseless act of violence.

“It’s another one of those situations where the people that are supposed to protect us are actually not here to protect us,” said Jefferson’s sister. “You know, you want to see justice, but justice don’t bring back my sister.”
