The 28th Annual Bounce Awards broadcasted on January 12th and was hosted by world-renowned comedian Wanda Sykes. Among the honorees were Martin Lawrence, Marsai Martin, Cedric The Entertainer, Andrew Young, Hydeia Broadbent, and Phylicia Fant. Each of the honorees received awards for their wonderful performances and their various works in the entertainment industry.
Covering the film & entertainment industries; the Luminary Award was given to Martin Lawrence, the Rising Star Award was given to Marsai Martin, and the Excellence in Entertainment Award was given to Cedric the Entertainer.
For their philanthropic work, Andrew Young received the Xernona Clayton Award for his participation in civil & human rights, and Hydeia Broadbent received the Community Activist award for her work as an HIV/AIDS activist.
Phylicia Fant, the head of Urban Music at Columbia Records, received the Corporate Executive of the Year Award for her work in the music industry.
Presenters of the listed awards included Anthony Anderson, Niecey Nash, Steve Harvey, Vanessa Bell Calloway, George Lopez, and Mike Epps. The performers were Faith Evans, NAS, Elle Varner, Rapsody, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Le’Andria Johnson. The awards show consisted of a show filled with laughs, great performances, heart-felt speeches, and the celebration of African Americans in various industries who have earned their accolades in their designated industries.
