The Weeknd Releases Single “Blinding Lights”

GRAMMY-winning artist, The Weeknd released his single “Blinding Lights” in November 2019. “Blinding Lights” is the second single off of his upcoming album, rumored to be named “Chapter VI.” The Canadian-singer took a turn from a more urban approach with this newest single, “Blinding Lights.” Instead, the song has more of an EDM/Electropop type of vibe. Peaking at #11 on the Billboard Charts after its debut, “Blinding Lights” followed behind The Weeknd’s first single, “Heartless.”

The lyrics to “Blinding Lights” references the on-and-off relationship between The Weeknd and Bella Hadid. The Weeknd sings “I'm blinded by the lights/ No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch/ I said, ooh, I'm drowning in the night/ Oh, when I'm like this, you're the one I trust” in the chorus. With the 80s vibe that the song contains, the romantic message of the song almost gets lost in the psychedelic beat. The Weeknd released the music video to “Blinding Lights” on January 21st, 2020. Showcasing a bloody, disoriented version of the singer walking around Las Vegas- the “Sin City” that he mentioned in the song, the visual tells a story. Overall, The Weeknd is a story-teller regardless of what style of music he dabbles into, and his next album is expected to be a novel. “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd is available now on all streaming platforms, and you can watch the music video for the single below.
