Derek Fisher & Matt Barnes!
Former Knicks coach, Derek Fisher is speaking out on the issue of what happened a few months ago. Apparently him, and Matt Barnes got into a brawl and Fisher took matters into his own hands…
Fisher wrote an essay on Sports Illustrated explaining that, “We [him and Matt Barnes] were teammates, and never had any issues. We never had any real relationship off the court, either. When Gloria and I started dating, she said Matt had already been speared and living apart for more than a year… The relationship wasn’t something I was trying to publicize, but it also wasn’t something I was trying to hide either. There was no reason to.”
He also stated that he wasn’t aware of what was going on in Matt’s head when he showed up “unannounced” to Gloria’s house and started to swing towards him.
He said, “I didn’t retaliate. No one who was there did anything but try to get him to calm down, particularly because Matt and Gloria’s children were present. There was no fight. That’s it.”
Even through this craziness, that is not what got him fired. No real evidence is known at the moment.
After he was let go, he got fined $35,000 for tweeting, “Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is.” insinuating that something else may have happened that day between him and Barnes. His lasting words are, “Plenty of people know me well, and they know my true character.”
We’ll have updates, when they arrive with more details on the story.
