ABC Ready To Join The Live Musical Trend
NBC kicked off the trend in 2010 when it first announced its plans to revive the 1965 musical The Sound of Music as a live (televised) stage play. The show went on to cast big names such as country songstress Carrie Underwood and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer. After airing two more specials (Peter Pan & The Wiz), FOX networks decided to hop on the wagon with its rendition of 1978’s Grease starring household names such as High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens, Dancing with the Stars’ Julianne Hough, KeKe Palmer and more. Now it seems that ABC is ready to join the game according to ABC president Channing Dungey. Apparently a live musical event is currently “in development”. Although a specific production has yet to been chosen, seeing that ABC owns the creative license to all of Disney’s wonders we can only wait in excitement. While we may still be in the dark, Dungey promises that the finishing product will “speak to the heart of who [they] are at ABC as part of the Disney family”.
