Disney Announces Live-Action Remake of Classic ‘The Lion King’
Disney has been acclaimed for bringing us many great animation movies over the past few decades. For years, they have made sure that any production being released under its trademark be captivating for their fellow audiences, big or small. Over the last few years however, Disney has stepped into a new age of live-action technology which has led classical movies, such as The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast to be reborn again in a new sense. But, Disney isn’t stopping there. According to officials, Disney is in the process of producing another live-action remake of the popular classic The Lion King.
The original 1994 Lion King classic was one of Disney’s most popular releases to date. So it would only make sense that the remake would have to step up to the plate to make sure that it is continuing the great legacy of the original production. With that being said, Disney had to create an outstanding cast for the remake to be a complete success. Just last year Disney released it's star-studded cast and it comes as a delightful surprise that the cast is indeed an all predominantly African American cast. The cast includes: Donald Glover as Simba, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as the worry-free duo of Timon and Pumba, John Oliver as Zazu, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the malicious Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Kani as the wise and mischievous Rafiki, the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, and finally none other than the original himself, James Earl Jones, could possibly play the role of the prideful Mufasa.
The public’s response to the more than iconic cast has been nothing but thumbs up, so far. Although some feel that an alternative person could be used to voice the character of Nala. More than a few potential viewers feel as if Beyoncé has the potential to make the character come alive with a sexy aspect; however others feel as if her voice itself is not youthful enough for the character’s personality. Much of the public seem to feel as if names like, Zendaya or Lupita Nyong’o would fulfill the role of Nala better than that of Beyoncé. Other than the voices behind the characters of the new live-action film, the public are also wondering if Disney has every intention of keeping the same storyline as the 1994 classic along with the ever so catchy songs. I mean who doesn’t belt out a verse or two of Hakuna Matata, right?
The Lion King is a personal animated favorite from the entire Disney movie franchise. Between the timeless story, the breathtaking landscapes, and the catchy songs, we can not wait to see how Disney plans to pull this unforgettable classic all together. The Lion King will be roaring into theaters on July 19, 2019.
