Why it is important for HBCU students to vote in the 2020 election?
It is imperative that HBCU students everywhere get out and vote in the 2020 presidential election. Primarily, because we have the right to be able do so. We finally are in the position for our voices to be heard and to make action to enact change in America. We have to, because it is our duty. Those who came before us were suppressed for hundreds of years and paid the ultimate debt of sacrifice, jail and even death so that we could even begin to have the same rights as the pilgrims of this country. It would be disrespectful to them not to fulfill their wishes. According to census.gov, people ages 18-29 had the highest percentage of unregistered voters. Of those there are an estimated 48% that are African American.
