Magic City Classic

Every year thousands of people and sponsors flood into the city of Birmingham, Alabama to support Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University, in the largest HBCU football game in the country. Each year it seems as if the games get even better. This year will definitely be a year to beat, thanks to McDonald's. Game day began with a glorious parade, pulling black excellence from all over the country. Next, came the tailgate. There was food, laughter, music, and genuine fun for all ages. Lastly, came the anticipated game where rivals ASU and AAMU left all they had on the field. An intense four quarters and a triple over time later, AAMU came out on top, as the 2019 Magic City Classic champion

s. However, the party did not stop there; 2 Chainz and a few up and coming artists performed, ending the night on a good note.

If the experience was not enough to put icing on the cake, McDonald's created the slogan “Black and Positively Golden” which was appropriate and supportive to the African American community. The purpose of the slogan is to create a movement that, “uplifts communities through education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship.”

With McDonald's partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, they award two deserving HBCU students Ariana Griggs and Joshua Baker with $10,000 scholarships each to help them acheive further success with their education.

In a world where beautiful black excellence is not widely celebrated, it is highly appreciated when our greatness is embraced. Not only did I enjoy my first Magic City Classic because I was there to support the persevering bulldogs, but also because of the hospitality McDonald's showed us. Paris and Jessica welcomed my two colleagues and I with open arms. The Divah Filez thanks McDonald's from the bottom of our hearts, and look forward to future endeavors.
