A Closer Look into the 2019 People’s Choice Awards

Since March of 1975, the People’s Choice Awards has been a fan favorite for millions of Americans. The award show first began when Bob Stivers, a famous producer in the late 70s, had the idea of having an interactive show for fans for the entertainment industry in areas such as favorite film actress/actor, favorite male/female TV star, and favorite picture (to name a few). More than 40 years later, Stiver’s award show is now called the “E! People’s Choice Awards”. The awards show has many different categories, which makes it appealing to a wide variety of people. As of 2018, there are four main category subjects: movies, music, television and pop culture (my personal favorite), all of which draw out the biggest names in Hollywood and social media.

Unlike most awards shows, the People’s Choice Awards do not have a singular emcee/host for the evening, rather, a plethora of celebrities present the categories and highlight some of the most pivotal moments in the entertainment industry. Celebrities like Kelly Rowland, Terry Crews, and Adam Sandler stood on the stage and presented awards to their fellow entertainers. One of the most memorable parts of any awards show is the musical performances, and the 2019 People’s Choice Awards did not disappoint. Aleesia Cara, who is best known for her song “I Was Here” performed alongside Kelsea Ballerini.

Overall the night was entertaining and successful, with many of favorite celebrities taking home awards that they well deserved. One of the best moments of the night was when Kevin Hart, a world famous comedian who was recently in a horrible car accident, made his first public speech since the car accident after winning the Comedy Act of 2019.
