Summer Walker Cancels “First and Last” Tour Partially

2019 has been a great year for R&B artist Summer Walker whose song “Girls Need Love” and new album “Over It” took over the music charts. Several months ago, Walker announced that she was going on tour, and the title of the tour would be “First and Last Tour”. If you follow Summer Walker on social media, you probably wouldn’t be surprised at the title of her tour, because she has admitted in the past that she does not like performing in front of crowds. Millions of people love Summer Walker’s music because of the sultry sounds, honest lyrics, and the occasional sexual undertones, but her fans were not very supportive when she speaks about her struggle with being a ‘new celebrity’ and handling her social anxiety.

On November 3rd, Walker posted a picture with a caption that hinted that she might not be in the music industry for much longer. Part of the caption said “na fr though i’ve decided y’all don’t deserve me lol i knew from day one I was to real for this sh**. Y’all can have the music, & ima just head out. f*** the interviews, photo shoots, videos & really the shows too. I’ll finish this tour out tho. I’m just a regular person, nothing more. Lol people got this fame s*** f**ked up.” Unfortunately, Summer Walker turned off the comments for that post, but that didn’t stop people from making negative comments about her and her new music career.

A little over a week later, the r&b singer announced that she is going to cut down down some of the dates for the “First and Last Tour”. In the video, Summer looks very focused and serious about her announcement. The caption read: “I truly appreciate all the support and love. As you know, I have been very open about my struggle with social anxiety. I want to continue to be healthy and to make music for y’all, so I have decided to cut down some of the dates on the tour,” said the self-described introvert. “I hope you all can understand. I’m grateful for every single one of you, and I hope that you understand that wellness/mental health is important. All cancelled dates will be refunded asap. Thank you.” Of the 28,000+ comments underneath the picture, many of them were negative comments toward Summer. Some fans were upset that she canceled the performance in the city that they bought their tickets for, others didn’t understand why she even scheduled a tour if she knew she struggled with anxiety, and another group of people attacked her because they don’t believe that she actually struggles with social anxiety.

Summer Walker has not made an official statement about the comments to her video, but she has emphasized that the entire tour is not canceled, just some of the dates.
