LaFace Records Honored at Youtube’s Music Leaders & Legends Ball

In early January, hundreds of celebrities flocked to Atlanta for Youtube Music’s 2020 Leaders & Legends Ball. This year’s event took place at the Atlanta History Center, in the Buck-head district, and had people like Future, Ludacris. T.I, Kandi Burruss and Monica in the audience! The ball was focused on celebrating LaFace Records, created by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Antonio “LA” Reid, that signed and managed many artists from 1989 to 2004. LaFace Records had major names signed to their label, such as TLC, Ciara, and Usher, and will always be remembered in the music industry. When Babyface spoke to the audience, he said, “[LaFace] wasn’t just a record company. People were proud to say that they worked for LaFace. I feel blessed to have written the songs I wrote, but I’m just as blessed to have known and worked with the people at LaFace and to be a part of this city. There is no place like Atlanta and I don’t think there ever will be.” The night continued with live performances from 2 Chainz, Big Boi, T.I and Killer Mike.

Though I was not in attendance, it was great to see so much Black Excellence in one room, celebrating a black owned business that helped the music industry become what it is today. I am looking forward to seeing who is honored at the 2021 Youtube Music Leaders & Legends Ball!
