The Stellar Award Winners
The Stellar Awards ran by The Stellar Awards Gospel Music Academy is a non-profit organization that encourages and advocates for Gospel music everywhere. In 1985, the first Stellar Awards ceremony was held to pay tribute and honor the gospel artists from 1984.
Now, we celebrate the 35th annual Stellar Awards which premiered on Sunday, August 23rd on the BET Network. However, due to Covid-19, the event went from physical to virtual but, that didn’t impact the amazing performances by Jonathan Mcreynolds, Melvin Crispell III, Kierra Sheard, Pastor Mike Jr., and Koryn Hawthorne to name a few. With 28 categories and numerous extremely talented and worthy nominees, the vote was clearly close.
Although, In the end the winners of the 35th annual Stellar Awards include Kirk Franklin 5 (male vocalist of the year, contemporary male vocalist of the year, album of the year, contemporary album of the year, and producer of the year), Donald Lawrence 4 (Choir of the Year, Contemporary Choir of the Year, Song of the Year, and Urban/Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year), John P. Kee 3 (Traditional Male Vocalist, Traditional Album of the Year, and Traditional Choir of the Year), Tasha Cobbs Leonard 2 (Artist of the Year and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year), Le’Andria Johnson 2 (Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year),
The Walls Group 2 (Duo Group of the Year and Contemporary Duo Group of the Year), Pastor Mike Jr. 2 (New Artist of the Year and Rap/Hip Hop Gospel Album of the Year), Kurt Carr 2 (Traditional Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and Recorded Music Packaging of the Year), JJ Hairston 1 (Praise and Worship Album of the Year), Ben Tankard 1 (Instrumental Album of the Year), Gospel Kids 1 (Youth Project of the Year), Keith Wonderboy Johnson 1 (Quartet of the Year) and Greenleaf: Season 3 (Special Event Album of the Year).
