52nd NAACP Image Awards Virtual Experience Airs Live on BET Hosted by Anthony Anderson

The 52nd NAACP Image Awards aired live last Saturday, March 27, on BET. Anthony Anderson hosted the event, after a week-long virtual experience of festivities. The night began with a special recording of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala highlighting the NAACP’s impact and relevance, with nods of approval towards the organization. Performances were off the charts with appearances from, Image Award nominee Jazmine Sullivan (Outstanding Female Artist), and Grammy Award-winning singer Maxwell. Award winners include: D-NICE (Entertainer of the Year), Viola Davis (Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series- “HTGAWM” & Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture- “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Tabitha Brown (Social Media Personality), Marsai Martin (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), Beyoncé, Wizkid, Blue Ivy Carter, and more (Outstanding Music Video- “Brown Skin Girl”), Issa Rae (Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series), and so many more! Notable moments of the show include the late Chadwick Boseman, who won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture- “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”. Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award in his honor and encouraged viewers to stay on top of their health. Also, legendary film icon, comedian, and two-time Image Award recipient, Eddie Murphy, was inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame; presented by Murphy’s long-time friend and entertainer, Arsenio Hall. Civil Rights Movement activist, Rev. D James Lawson, was also recognized with the NAACP Chairman’s Award. In addition to this, the NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnson, presented NBA superstar and mogul, LeBron James, with the President’s Award for special achievements and distinguished service.
