A HIP HOP MOMENT FOR CULTURE, FOR NEW YORK

First and foremost, The Dipset and The Lox are some of the most heavy-hitting OG hip hop groups from New York. The Dipset was formed by childhood friends Cam’ron and Jim Jones in 1997, and The Lox was formed in 1994 with the members being Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Jadakiss. The groups were close to each other in New York with The Dipset in Harlem and The Lox in Yonkers. So this battle of the best classic New York hip hop group was bound to happen.

The Verzuz battle took place on August 3 at 9:30 PM EST at Madison Square Garden. Several hundred thousand people tuned in to watch the battle and left in awe. Both groups had memorable and outstanding performances, it was definitely one of the best Verzuz battles thus far. Some notable moments include when Jadakiss hit back at Cam’ron’s “Welcome to New York City” with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss’ “New York.” Cam’ron and Freekey Zekeymocked the Lox by marching around like Damon Wayans in Major Payne during the Lox’s performance. All in all both groups had a great night and started strong with the Lox beginning their set with “Fuck You” and the Dipset beginning their set with “I’m Ready.”

The groups are set to go on tour together in September.
