Welcome to the Start of Something Great: Advice for Incoming Freshmen
1. Your first semester GPA sets the tone for your entire college journey; it will establish your academic foundation. This strong start could help open doors to get scholarships, internships, leadership opportunities, and honor programs.
2. Don’t be scared of growth. College is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone and discovering who you are. Growth can be uncomfortable, but trying new things, letting old habits go, and being open to new perspectives.
3. Never be afraid to try new things; if there is any opportunity in front of you, take it. College is the perfect time to explore, experiment, and say yes to the unknown.
4. Make at least one friend in every class. To make genuine connections with the people around you and build community, but also because your network is your net worth.
5. Network over anything. One of the most powerful tools, besides your resume, is your network. Networking opens doors that most time you don’t even know are possible.
6. To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unacceptable. This rule is important for everything, whether that’s class or an interview.
