VH1 Original Movie: The Breaks To Become A Series!
The Breaks originally premiered on VH1 as a movie event profiling the history and the business of the beginning stages of Hip Hop. The TV movie turned TV series is based on former record exec & writer for The Source (Hip Hop's first magazine), Dan Charnes' best-selling book The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop. The Breaks,chronicles the journey of Nikki, David and DeeVee, three friends united by their love of hip-hop, as they work to make their big mark in the music industry. The movie takes place during the Summer of 1990 in New York, where the industry and the streets intersect. Most of the cast is set to return for the series including: Wood Harris (The Wire) Mack "Tristan" Wilds (90210), Afton Williamson (Banshee), David Call (Gossip Girl), Antoine Harris (Ballers) and Method Man starred in the TV movie. Most are expected to return for the series however the exact list has yet to be posted. In other unconfirmed news, the number of episodes is yet to be revealed. The Breaks aired in January and currently ranks as the No. 2 cable original movie of the year among adults 18-49, 18-34 and women in both demos. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1990’s set drama pulled in 2.6 million total viewers from its January premiere and encore airing.
