Cooley High To Be Remade!

According to Deadline, the popular 1960 film is set to make a comeback. The original movie followed two high school seniors and bestfriends, Leroy “Preach” Jackson and Richard “Cochise’ Morris; played by Glynn Turman and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs respectively, in intercity Chicago. The film is most notable for its fun filled and comedic narrative mixed with more serious discussions of masculinity and sexism, gang violence, and the value of education in the Black community. Chicago native Common has officially signed on as co-producer of the remake along with movie studio executive DeVon Franklin and television producer Tony Krantz. Seth Rosenthal, writer of the 1996 film Sunset Park and various episodes of HBO’s How To Make It In America, will be in charge of writing the script. The movie will be pushed through MGM studios; cast and other elements have yet to be discussed or revealed.
