Harriet Trailer released and it’s Moving People to Tears

The trailer for Harriet was released earlier this week and we are SHOOK. Harriet tells the story of escaped slave and hero Harriet Tubman and how she led hundreds of slaves to freedom.

Cynthia Erivo plays Harriet in the biopic and she’s amazing. Erivo can be seen traveling back and forth freeing her family despite the dangers that come with going back. She even goes as far as jumping off a bridge to escape slave owners.

Cynthia has won a Tony award for her role as Celie in the new Color Purple. It looks like we’ll be adding an Oscar to that list soon.

Erivo has received much backlash on her role in the film. People feel that it’s a slap in the face considering that she’s from the UK and doesn’t share the story.

Her response:

“People speak of foreign privilege and truthfully life would be unbelievably easy if that were applied to me but that is not my portion. … I cannot tell how protective I am of this woman and her story.

Good to see she’s not letting the backlash get to her!

Many other notable names will be starring in the film alongside Erivo. Those actors/ actresses include Joe Alwyn, Clarke Peters, Leslie Odom Jr, and Janelle Monae who is set to be the main character is Homecoming season 2.

Harriet biopic is set to release this November.
