Deyjah Harris Isn't Here For Her Father's Recent Comments

Roughly a week ago, Rapper T.I was a guest on the “Ladies Like Us with Nazanin and Nadia.” The podcast often discusses insightful and juicy topics with different celebrities. However, the episode that aired November 5th left many feeling uneasy about T.I.’s views on his daughter.

Many of us have seen his daughter, Deyjah Harris, grow from their family series “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle.” Unfortunately, we have also witnessed the possessive nature of her father. In his interview with Nazanin and Nadia, the rapper revealed that he was specifically involved in her annual checkups with the gynecologist. The initial reaction from the public was one of support. At first glance, the story seems quite endearing. Who wouldn’t want the support of their father while at a nerve-racking appointment? The story reaches a new height of discomfort once T.I. spoke that he wants to check Deyjah’s hymen at every appointment.

“Right after the birthday, we celebrate...usually the day after the party. She's enjoying her gifts. I put a sticky note on the door: 'Gyno, tomorrow, 9:30,'” he explained. "We'll go and sit down, and the doctor will come and talk, and you know, the doctors maintain a high level of professionalism. He's like, 'Well, you know, sir: In order for me to share information...' I say, 'Deyjah they want you to sign this...so we can share information. Is there anything that you would not want me to know?"

To add insult to injury, T.I. made it very clear that his daughter was still pure to him. "I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact."

Listeners of the podcast instantly took their opinions to social media. Many began to call the rapper “possessive” and “disgusting” for his obvious bias against his daughter. The idea of constructed gender stereotypes in 2019? Nonetheless, it shocked many. T.I. even admitted to believing in this idea.

“I definitely feel different about a boy than about a girl,” he said. “That’s just the God’s honest truth. I don’t think there’s any father out there who’ll tell you any different.”

Since the controversary has occurred, Deyjah has unfollowed all of her family members on Instagram, including her sister Zonnique. As for Twitter, she only follows her step-mother, Tiny Harris.

Anger also arose against the hosts, Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham. Viewers also felt they should’ve spoke up for a women’s right to her own body. Since then, they have apologized for their reactions during this part of the interview.

“We support and love Women and feel that their bodies are theirs to do as they wish,” they wrote. “There was absolutely no ill intent towards any party involved & feel deeply awful about the entire incident. We are not perfect, take full accountability of our lack of action & are continuously learning along the way. We know an apology doesn’t make this go away but we welcome the discussion — that’s what our podcast is about.”
