Tami Roman to Play Octavia Spencer’s Stepmother in New Thriller "Are You Sleeping?"

Tami Roman has a lot more experience to add to her acting career. We all love her “Bonnet Chronicles”, which are 60 second videos where she talks about the hilarious headlines on Instagram; or it could be her sassiness on VH1’s hit reality series, “Basketball Wives”. But, her new job is starring in the upcoming Apple Series, “Are You Sleeping?”. Now, this isn’t Roman’s first acting job. Last year, she starred alongside Lil Mama and Lance Gross in a TV One original, “When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story”, as Stacy, Falicia’s mother. “When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story” is based on the true story of a 16 year old, Falicia (Lil Mama), who became a stripper once she left her mother’s house due to conflict. While working, she meets Dino (Gross), a local pimp that fills her up with false hope and promises that turns her into a pawn in a dangerous game, where she is forced to prove her love for him. Which end up harming innocent people.

“Are You Sleeping?” is a thriller drama, which is based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber. The novel focuses on how America is obsessed with true-crime podcasts and makes the viewers consider what would happen if the price of justice is placed on a public stage. “Are you Sleeping?” stars Octavia Spencer (The Help) as Poppy Purnell, who is a persistent investigative reporter who tries to find the truth behind a decade-old murder verdict with her new podcast. Tami Roman (When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story) will portray Lillian Scoville, who is Poppy’s bold stepmother. Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us) will play as Poppy’s Grandpa, Elizabeth Perkins (Sharp Objects) will play Melanie Cave, who is the widower to the victim. Mekhi Phifer (Frequency) will play Markus Knox, who is an ex detective and Poppy’s friend. Tracie Tomas (Rent) will play Desiree Scoville, Poppy’s older and arrogant sister and finally, Haneefah Wood (One Day at a Time) will play Clydie Scoville, Poppy’s other sister.

Aaron Paul (The Breaking Bad), Hunter Doohan (Westworld) and Molly Hagan (IZombie), are also some names that have been reported to be a part of the production. “Are You Sleeping?” will consist of 10 episodes, but the release date has not yet been announced.
